Trail Rippers: Mountain Bike coaching for Kids in Golden, BC
Frequently Asked Questions
Right now, most of our programs are geared toward kids ages 4–8, since that’s where we saw the most interest when we got started. That said, we do coach riders between 6 and 14, and we’re always open to expanding based on community needs! If you don’t see a program that’s the right fit for your child, feel free to email us at coach@trailrippers.ca—we’d love to hear what you’re looking for.
We currently offer skill development for novice, beginner, and intermediate riders! Whether your child is just getting started or already confidently riding singletrack, our coaching is tailored to meet them where they’re at.
Yes, your child will need a properly sized mountain bike in good working condition. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to help with a bike check or recommendations.
A properly fitting helmet is mandatory. We also recommend gloves, knee pads, and closed-toe shoes. Eye protection and elbow pads are optional but encouraged.
Bring a bike, helmet, water bottle or hydration pack, snacks, and appropriate clothing for the weather. A small backpack is helpful for carrying items.
Sessions typically run 1.5 for our weekly sessions and 3 hours for our summer camps. Private lessons is up to 3 hours depending on the child’s age and skill level.
No problem at all! We start with the fundamentals and gradually build your child’s skills and confidence in a supportive, encouraging environment. To help them prepare, consider taking a casual ride on the Rotary Trail or Bush Party. These beginner-friendly routes offer a great introduction to gravel paths and uneven terrain without being too intimidating.
Safety is our top priority. Our certified coaches implement progressive skills training, enforce proper trail etiquette, and manage groups effectively to ensure a controlled and supportive environment. We maintain low coach-to-rider ratios to provide personalized attention. Additionally, each coach is trained in 40-hour Wilderness First Aid and is equipped to respond to emergencies or situations that require advanced care.
We ride on local trails in the Golden area. Specific meeting spots are sent out ahead of each session.
We ride rain or shine to help kids build resilience and experience a variety of trail conditions. However, sessions may be canceled or rescheduled if conditions are unsafe—such as lightning, heavy rain, wildfire smoke, or extreme temperatures. In these cases, families will be notified via email or text as early as possible.
We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact us as soon as possible.
Cancellations made 14 days or more before the program start date are eligible for a full refund.
Cancellations made with less than 14 days’ notice will receive a 50% refund.
No refunds are issued once the program has started.
Kids are grouped by a combination of age, skill level, and riding goals to keep sessions challenging but fun.
A trail guide is always appreciated! However, if we find that having a parent present may be distracting, we might ask that parents watch from a distance to help encourage independence and allow kids to focus on learning and having fun with their peers.
All of our coaches hold a minimum of PMBIA Level 1 Certification, are certified in 40-hour Wilderness First Aid, and have passed comprehensive background checks.
Spots fill quickly, so we recommend signing up early! Send an email to coach@trailrippers.ca and let us know which program you are interested in. Not seeing something that fits? Send us an email. If we generate enough interest we can open up another program!
Our coaching approach is all about building confidence—whether it’s learning a new skill, riding a new trail, or making new friends. Most importantly, we believe that fun is the key to learning—so expect plenty of smiles, high-fives, and laughter every step of the way.
