Castlegar
Castlegar sits at the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay rivers in the heart of the West Kootenays — a working town with a trail network that’s still finding its feet. Friends of Trails (Castlegar Parks and Trails Society) is actively building and the riding is improving season by season. For families already in the area or passing through between Nelson and Rossland, it’s worth a look — and worth watching as the network grows.

TrailRipper's Take
We loved Castlegar! It may receive as much attention as Rossland and Nelson but for families Castlegar ticks a lot of boxes. Convenient access to family riding areas (Morning Mountain towards Nelson), skills park, a few green/blues around town (more XC style) and a fantastic park/playground: Millennium Park.

BlackCaptain Kangaroo is an expert level ride with numerous rock rolls, rock slabs, boardwalks and a steep forested section with a few log skinnies to test your skill. It's well worth the climb up the Mr. Green Jeans trail to access the Captain. From the parking lot, climb up Merry Go Round and Mr. Green Jeans to the top of the Captain.
