Rolling through Radium with kids and bikes? Sinclair Canyon makes a great pit stop, especially on a sunny summer day — and there's more than one reason to linger.
Tucked below Rotary Park along the creek, the Pump and Jump track is a fun little skills park that pairs perfectly with the green Sinclair Creek trail. The trail follows the creek and offers easy spots to pull over for water breaks, making it ideal for younger riders.
Round out the day with a stop at Legends Field, home to Radium's excellent playground and splash park. We often swing by here on the way in or out — kids are always ready to jump off their bikes and run around, and the playground never disappoints. String these two stops together and you've got a solid half-day that will keep everyone happily worn out.
The Pump and Jump Track
The track has two lines:
- Beginner loop — smaller rollers and gentle corners, good for kids and anyone new to pumping. If your kid can balance and steer, they can do this.
- Intermediate line — bigger hills and actual jump opportunities. Enough to keep older kids and adults entertained for a few laps.
The whole area sits below Rotary Park where Hwy 93 meets 93/95 — you can see it from the road if you know where to look. It was built in 2012 by the Columbia Valley Cycling Society, and it's held up well.
The Sinclair Creek Trail
The pump track connects directly to the Sinclair Creek trail system. The main trail follows the creek through the canyon bottom — wide gravel, flat, with interpretive signs along the way. It's a legitimate green trail, easy enough for beginner riders and balance bikes alike, and dog-friendly enough that you'll share it with plenty of other users. Good practice for kids learning trail etiquette.
The creek runs alongside much of the trail, with shallow spots perfect for rock throwing, cooling off, and snack breaks after pump track laps.
Getting There
Two access options:
From the parking lot (recommended if you're arriving by car): Head down Forsters Landing Road. Just before the left turn onto Horsethief Creek Road, take a sharp right onto the road that skirts the Canfor mill log yard. Follow it to the lower parking lot. From there, ride the main Sinclair Creek trail until you reach the bike area below Rotary Park.
From town on foot or bike: There's a 400m access road from town — no vehicles — marked by a Village kiosk and locked gate off Forsters Landing Road across from Revelstoke Avenue. You can also reach the trailhead directly from Rotary Park on a gravel path. If you have a trailer, you can park at the top by the splash park and bike from there.
Add the Splash Park
Legends Field is a 5-minute ride from the Sinclair Creek area — we often stop here on the way south for a break. The playground is designed for ages 2–12 with both primary and intermediate equipment, and right beside it is the Rotary Splash Park, open June through September.
Do the trail and pump track first, then finish at the splash park. It works perfectly as an incentive to get kids back up the hill!
What to Know Before You Go
- The pump track and Sinclair Creek trail are free and open year-round (weather permitting)
- The splash park runs June to end of September
- Public washrooms are also available at the splash park
- Dogs are welcome on the Sinclair Creek trails — it's an off-leash area
- Bike rentals available in town at Far Out Gear Rentals on Main Street
- The trail loop takes about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace; budget more time if kids are playing at the track
- A 4-minute walk across the highway, Screamers retro cafe serves ice cream, specialty coffee, milkshakes, crepes, açaí bowls, smoothies, and gluten-free baked goods for anyone who needs a proper refuel.
Why It Works for Families
Radium doesn't have a huge trail network, but this little pocket is well thought-out. The creek, the pump track, the green trail, the playground and the splash park all sit within easy reach of each other — and the town itself. You're not driving between stops. You park once, and the day unfolds from there.
It's an easy add-on if you're passing through on the way to Fernie or Kimberley. It’s also a proper destination stop if you're camping at Redstreak or the Canyon RV Resort.
