Fernie
Fernie is one of BC's most celebrated mountain bike destinations, with a trail network spanning Mt Fernie, Mt Proctor, Morrissey Ridge, Heiko's, and the CONTRA network. The Fernie Trails Alliance manages the majority of riding, supported by a trail pass system that funds ongoing maintenance. Trails cover every ability level, from accessible cross-country loops to burly enduro descents. The town itself is compact and bike-friendly, with dedicated MTB shops, a thriving riding community, and easy access to trailheads from the townsite.

TrailRipper's Take
Fernie has earned its reputation. The trail network is huge, well-maintained, and fun at every level — there's always something new to discover whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth. Buy a trail pass; the FTA earns it. Elemental Cycle or Straight Line for your gear needs, and grab a trail pass at Revolution Cycles before you head out.
Where to start
Start with the Town Loop — it’s almost entirely flat, Chariot-friendly, and circles the whole downtown past playgrounds and a spray park. Great for a first morning to get legs under everyone before committing to anything in the mountains. The Dirt Jump & Skills Park at the Aquatic Centre (Pine & Ridgemont) is right on the loop, so kids can peel off and hit features at their own level.

4 trailsCemetery By-Pass
BlueThis trail by-passes the cemetery to access Ridgemont via What's Up Doc. Easy little section through the tress, over a little wooden bridge and then a bit of grunt up to the water plant.
Kiddy Down
GreenShorter easy trail for kids or beginners to help create fun loops in lower Ridgemont. Turny, with some mild sidehill awesome berms, and fun jumps for kids or people who think they’re kids. Best ridden as a descent. Easiest access to the top is via Kiddie Up and then right on Lower Ridgemont Connector and this trailhead is at the junction of What's up Doc and Lower Ridgemont Connector . The bottom end is about halfway up Cemetery Bypass Extension.
Kiddy Up
GreenThe easiest climb up into Ridgemont. Designed to help kids climb into Ridgemont, so don't try and Strava it on the down... Head up Cemetary Bypass and past the entrance to What's Up Doc. You'll see the sign for Kiddie Up a few metres further on your right.
Town Loop
GreenThe classic Fernie town loop links several flat riverside and park trails to circle the whole downtown. Start/finish at the Fernie Aquatic Centre & Dirt Jump Park (Pine Ave & Ridgemont Dr). Almost entirely flat — most of it is double track and Chariot-friendly. The loop passes playgrounds, coffee shops, art galleries, and a spray park. Old Stumpy is the one mildly technical section and can be bypassed. Distance varies 8–15 km depending on which connectors you include. Outstanding first ride for families visiting Fernie.
